Think about your breathing pattern and change your life

Posted in Health, Self Improve at 8:59 am by admin

We all breathe - of course - that’s what keeps us alive. However, the majority of us never stop to give breathing a second thought, its just there. There is a right way and wrong way to breathe and it has an astonishing affect on our health and overall well being, if we breathe the correct way. Breath awareness or conscious breathing can make us feel happier, healthier and more in control over our bodies and life and anyone can start benefiting from using it.

Conscious breathing is all about being more aware of your body sensations. Since we all have to breathe continually we are able to practice conscious breathing during every waking moment of our lives until it becomes the norm.

Learning how to breathe consciously
Learning how to breathe consciously is not hard; in essence it is nothing more than being aware of the breath entering your body through your nose and the sensations of it leaving your body through your mouth. One important point to note when making the transition to conscious breathing is that you shouldn’t make any changes to your breathing.

Time is Valuable: Learn When to Say No

Posted in Genaral, Self Improve at 3:51 am by admin

A lack of assertiveness can cause many problems in day-to-day living yet it is something that many of us have problems dealing with. The most common problems that stem from a lack of assertiveness are stress and anxiety. Learning how to be more assertive and how to say “no” is a huge step towards gaining more self-confidence and dealing with other people much more easily.

Traits which are common to the unassertive person
Almost everyone that has a problem with un-assertiveness suffers from a huge amount of empathy, which means they will take into account and worry more about other people’s thoughts and feelings more than they do their own. While a certain amount of empathy is a good trait, too much causes many problems for some people when it comes to saying the simple word “no”. People suffering from an over abundance of empathy will find it extremely difficult to say “no” to others and usually those requesting favors know this and many times the person is taken advantage of. Just remember the next time a colleague or friends asks you to swap a shift or you are asked to do a favor of any kind that your time is just as valuable as those asking you for the favor. If it is no big deal then fair enough but if you had other plans to spend that time then learn how to say “No”.

Small Business Finance

Posted in Business at 2:29 am by admin

Expenses like income are treated differently depending on your method of accounting (cash or accrual). Cash accounting says a cost is “expensed” when you write the check to pay for it. Accrual accounting expenses the cost when the transaction occurs whether or not money is exchanged, e.g. a supplier may give you 30 days to pay your bill or you may pay your payroll/sales taxes monthly. Accrual accounting attempts to keep expenses matched up with the sale that generated it. Bills that are paid in a lump sum for the year can be accrued (spread out) each month; e.g. unemployment insurance is paid in lump sums which throws off your P&L because of the large payment.

A solution is to record the payment to the Pre-paid Expenses account within Current Assets on the Balance Sheet. You can then divide the amount by the number of months paid and then each month reduce the Pre-Paid Expenses by the smaller monthly payment and record it in the Unemployment Insurance account on your P&L.

Most of your expenses come from your checkbook register but there is a couple you will want to watch out for.

The principle portion of your loans and credit cards that you pay on your bill are not expenses. The principle portion paid should go to the liability account on the balance sheet for the loan. The interest portion of the bill is an expense. You need to look at the bill and split out the two portions.

Items that are purchased in the $500+ range (start ups and businesses with sales less than $300,000) are considered investments in the business and should be depreciated over an IRS predetermined time span. This is where tax law and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles are applied. Larger businesses are able to expense bigger ticket items. A small business puts these $500+ purchases on their balance sheet under long term assets.

Marketing Tools for the Small Business

Posted in Business at 12:05 pm by admin

One of the essential small business marketing tools lies in a marketing plan, although most small business owners do not relish planning. They would rather spend their time in trying to bring in a few more customers by doing much simpler things than planning big. In any case, most of them do not think that drawing up a plan for their small business will be of any use. The plan need not be elaborate, however. It involves taking just a few simple steps. Proactive small business owners focus on understanding what their customers need most by interacting with them and then they gear themselves to fulfill such needs. They notice changes in the market trends and recreate their marketing materials as well as website content periodically. They put emphasis on the core areas of their business that bring the most benefits. A lot many customers come in to buy when they know that they get the best value for their money. Small business marketing is also about establishing individual contacts with your prospects as well as existing customers.

Email marketing
This can best be done through email, which has now become a very important means of promoting the small business. Emails reach the target audience directly. Small business owners and their customers or prospective customers get to establish an informal and continuous relationship, which will be good for their business in the long run. Being inexpensive and fast, emails are a good tool for promoting their business, especially because they have a wide spread and can reach, at once, a large number of buyers looking for products or services offered online. Best of all, emails can be used to encourage customers to give feedback, for improving sales as well as for modifying email marketing strategies.

Bed Linens

Posted in Genaral, RhoKappa at 5:56 am by admin

When I was growing up, I considered many possible careers. First of all, of course, I wanted to be a fire man. A little later, after watching a few cops and robbers movies, I decided that I either wanted to be a cop or a bank robber. As I grew up, my dreams continued to change. The only career, in fact, that I did not at one time or another contemplate is the one that I ended up with. Never did I imagine that I would grow up to design bed linens.

How Many Calories Are Right for You?

Posted in Fitness, Food and Drinks at 3:49 am by admin

In order to lose weight it is essential that you eat fewer calories and that you burn off the excess of your recommended daily allowance each and every day. This means that you should stick to a sensible calorie controlled diet with sensible portion sizes while exercising and being active enough to burn off the food that you are taking in. However, when it comes to counting calories many people on or starting a diet have very little idea as to how many calories is the right amount. So how do you calculate how many calories are needed in your daily diet in order for you to stick to a sensible diet that allows you to lose weight?

The easiest way to do this and determine how many calories are needed is by assessing your calorie need by doing simple math and following the Harris-Benedict formula. This formula gives you your basal metabolic rate; this is the amount that your body will burn off the calories that you take in and is a good estimation as to how calories you should have per day.

Calculating your BMR
Your basal metabolic rate is the amount of energy that your body needs in order to function properly. Think of your body as being like a car needing gas in order to get you from place to place and for it to stop running out of gas and coming to a standstill. It can be surprising what we use the calories for, for example just breathing and other similar functions will use up around 60% of the calories that we ingest throughout the day. Other factors that have to be taken into account when figuring out what your BMR are your age, your gender, height and weight.

When calculating your BMR this is the formula that you should follow and it is different for both men and women, this formula also should only be applied to adults.
For women the formula is 655 + (4.3 x weight in pounds) + (4.7 x height in inches) - (4.7 x age in years)
For men the formula is 66 + (6.3 x weight in pounds) + (12.9 x height in inches) - (6.8 x age in years)

Step two of the calculation is based upon the amount of activity that you do, this will then lead to your BMR score and the amount of calories that you need per day.
If you don’t take exercise on a regular basis then BMR x 20%
If you take part in light exercise then BMR x 30%
If you exercise intently almost everyday then BMR x 50%
For those people who workout say in competition for sports or who have very demanding physical jobs then BMR x 60%
It is important that as you lose weight on your diet you should take this into account and recalculate using this formula in order to find your new BMR.

The number that you get from this formula is the number of calories that should be eaten on a daily basis in order to remain the same weight as you are. If you want to lose weight then you will need to eat fewer calories than the formula suggests.

Fitness…Fact or Fiction

Posted in Fitness at 3:42 am by admin

Time to test your fitness knowledge! See how you stand up under pressure with these statements. Are they fact…or fiction?

Weight training isn’t good for women. It makes them bulk up and look like the Arnold Schwarzenegger contest competitors.

Unfortunately many trainers still preach this and it just isn’t so. Although most women probably do not want to have that professional body-building bulk, they wouldn’t get it with the basic weight lifting anyway that was added into their fitness routines. And science and medicine support this.

Kitchen Remodeling Plans

Several years ago my husband and I finished remodeling our country home. I had turned out beautifully. We had raised the sixty-six foot rambler and placed a full basement underneath it. We had removed paneling and had repainted. The house was exactly what we wanted. Then on a whim we found a house on a large lake that we loved. Only six months after having the eleven month remodeling project done, we placed the house on the market. Our remodeling efforts paid off, the house was on the market for seventy-two hours and we had a full price purchase agreement signed.
