Why does Male Urinary Incontinence occur?
Before going into the actual reason for Male urinary incontinence, let us have an overview on what urinary incontinence is. When someone is suffering from urinary incontinence it means that he or she has loss all the control over urine. It is more common in women, since the reported number of male patients is less. In the United States, around 5 million men are prone to this kind of problem.
The causes of urinary incontinence will also tell you whether this condition is temporary or permanent. Let us see why this problem occurs in men. If there are any prostate abnormalities in your body it may lead to urinary incontinence. This will also happen in case your prostrate is removed surgically which is called total prostatectomy. If you have suffered from any trauma or disease which has affected your head or spinal cord, the proper signals may not be sent to the urinary bladder. Thus, it leads to loss of urine control. In case, a person is suffering from neurological diseases, Parkinson’s disease or Multiple Sclerosis, you may lose control over your urine.
You also need to check if you have urinary infection. Urinary incontinence indicated that the condition of urinary infection is the worst. This can be treated by taking antibiotics. You will also face this problem if you are ageing. Just as you grow old, so does your body parts. An elderly person may lose sense of time and space. They fail to remember dates and days. Similarly body parts cannot perform their functions well if they are ageing. If you are someone who indulges in too much of alcohol, you are likely to suffer urinary incontinence. If your body is taking up toxins on a regular basis, it affects the functions of the body and consequently the passing of urine.
If you are taking medicines everyday especially sedative drugs, it leads to loss of control over passing urine. Such medicines should be taken under medical supervision and in the recommended doses. People suffering from mental depression or illness are also prone to urinary incontinence.
The several types of urinary incontinence are Urge incontinence, Stress incontinence, Overflow incontinence and Functional incontinence. Urge continence is seen in people who suffer from Parkinson’s disease, stroke etc. in case of Overflow incontinence the bladder is full of urine and can hold no more. Hence it bursts and urine leaks out. Stress incontinence happens when bladder experiences pressure due to coughing, laughing, picking something heavy etc. The treatment depends on the type of urinary incontinence you are suffering from.
